New Work: 12 x 12 x 12 November 2017

In the morning a few weeks ago, I noticed the sun was shining through the blinds in my living room window on the curtain. I loved the wavy lines on the gathered fabric, and took a picture immediately to capture it.

12 x 12 x 12 November 2017 is created with a piece of fabric monoprinted with a construction fence, and collaged acrylic skins of the photos, mounted on a 12" x 12" board.

I decided to leave the piece all black and white, with slight hints of light blue from the sky, and a tiny bit of mauve from the blinds (don't scream, they were purchased in the late 1980s) behind the white curtain that has small dots every few inches.

As much as I love working in color, I actually sell and license more work that is black and white, so I decided not to add anymore color than what's in the photos, as subtle as it may be.

I've been working on my 12 x 12 x 12 series since January 2007. It has given me time to create one 12" x 12" x 1" piece on board each month, no matter how many other things are going on that month. It's a wonderful opportunity for me to experiment with an idea or technique or a combination of both. This series is really about experimentation and creating something on a regular basis, no matter what else is going on in my life. Sometimes I like a piece, and sometimes not.
